Dobsonian Telescopes
If you’re a beginner astronomer or first-time star gazer, then Dobsonian telescopes are an excellent choice for getting you started. John Dobson borrowed original design work from the Newtonian model of telescope to deliver an alt-azimuth mounted telescope.
When most people think of telescopes, they imagine immensely complicated designs and engineering. However, Dobson was motivated to make start gazing and astronomy available to everyone. Motivated by this desire, he designed his own from just a few simple materials such as plywood, formica, porthole glass and a few other items he had lying around his home.
With Dobsonian telescopes, you can look forward to observing some nice deep sky activity. Specifically, you’ll be able to gaze upon start clusters, galaxies and nebulas. However, these types of telescopes will not be nearly as effective for viewing these objects if you’re located in a city. The design of these particular scopes require a setting with extremely low levels of light pollution. They are built with a large diameter and long tube because they are meant to efficiently pull light from just a few sources, helping to clarify the targeted object of observance. However, they are quite portable, so you can easily relocate to a lower light area.
Telescope aficionados especially love Dobsonian telescopes because they can make these models themselves. Even people with the tightest budgets can afford to make their own. In fact, you might be able to construct one strictly from items you already have in your home, with the exception of one or two inexpensive items you might need to purchase at your local hobby shop or here online.
